Léa Marchal will Visit the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) in Paris
Dr. Léa Marchal, KCG Research Fellow and a post-doctoral research fellow at the Bielefeld University and at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, will visit the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) in Paris from October 16 to November 30, 2018.
Marchal’s research focuses on topics such as the impact of foreign employment on firms’ outcomes and natives’ wages. Her research is highly related to the research agenda of KCG as it helps to understand how immigrant workers can be integrated into the global value chains. More recently, she started to coordinate and to contribute to a research project “How Immigration Impacts Natives’ Wages: Investigating Cross-Country Differences”. The project is jointly funded by the French National Agency for Research (ANR) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the period 2018-2021.
At the French Institute for Demographic Studies, Marchal will mainly work on a research piece aiming at testing the hypothesis that wage inequalities usually observed between native and immigrant workers can be offset by the value of immigrant workers’ skills and knowledge, when they are hired by exporting firms.
