Best Paper Award to KCG Research on Global Standards and Philosophy of Consumption

A recent KCG paper titled “Global Standards and Philosophy of Consumption: Towards Consumer-driven Governance of Global Value Chains”, co-authored by Guli-Sanam Karimova (KCG Fellow), Prof. Dr. Ludger Heidbrink (KCG Co-Head), and Prof. Dr. Johannes Brinkmann (BI Norwegian Business School & KCG External Research Fellow) received the Patrick Primeux Best Paper Award 2019 at the 26th International Vincentian Business Ethics Conference (IVBEC) on October 24-26, 2019 in Dublin, Ireland. The Conference with its overarching theme “Ethics and Capitalism” was hosted by the Dublin City University (DCU) and co-organised by the School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music with the Institute of Ethics and the Business School at DCU.

The awarded paper was presented by Karimova in the session “Governance and Regulation”. In the paper, the KCG researchers assess the content of global standards from the philosophical perspectives. They analyse the individual, political, and shared responsibilities of consumers, corporations, and states in this field and make suggestions as to necessary actions to strengthen the responsibility-taking of different groups of stakeholders to mitigate adverse effects and wrongdoings along the global value chains. In so doing, they make conceptual contributions to the existing business ethics literature and to the related practice in business and politics.
